Note that whatever you put on this form will be displayed publicly – It is separate from your actual system account information.
Exception 1: Username is not displayed publicly. It is created when you first register (or has been carried over from the old site) and cannot be changed.
Exception 2: Password Change field – of course your password is not displayed publicly, and this will change your system password. If you change it here, this is what you will have to use the next time you log in.
NEW: A new option has been added (as of 12 May 2021) to allow you to upload a PDF file of your speaker brochure, a listing of your current lectures, etc. This must be a single PDF file. On the “Contact” tab of your profile edit page, click on the “Browse” button to select a file from your computer. After updating your profile, the public will be able to click on the PDF icon to get the file. (Depending on the browser used, the PDF file will either download or open in a new browser tab, and the file can be downloaded from there.) The system only allows one PDF file at a time. If you wish to replace the file, first click on “Remove” and update the page. The “Browse” button will appear again to use to look for a new file to upload.
The form is fairly self-explanatory, but here are a few pointers.
The form is separated into 3 tabs for your ease of use – Basic, Contact, and About.
The public-facing profile page is a single page that combines all information from all three tabs.
Before proceeding, note that you must check the data permissions box (“I allow the website to…”) in order to save any changes. For a new account, this is not checked by default. If you have an older account carried over from the old website, it may already be checked, but take note of it.
The first tab is “Basic”. Self explanatory. Additional explanatory notes (in italics) occur on the page.
Recommended photo size is 160×200 pixels (4 to 5 ratio). If you do not have the means to resize your photo, use what you have and see what it looks like. If the results are unsatisfactory, you may send your photo to the webmaster to have it edited and added to your profile.
If you make changes, click on the “Update” button at the bottom.
Note: If you wish to replace a photo already in place, you will need to ‘remove’ the old photo, then add the new one. (If you don’t see the option to ‘add’ after removing the old one, click on the “Update” button to refresh the page.)
Note: Photos are not automatically added to the Member Photo Carousel at the top of the website. If you add a photo (either new or a replacement) and you would like it to appear in the Carousel, please contact the webmaster.
After updating, or if you did not make changes, click on Next, or one of the numbered buttons to go directly to that tab.
“Contact” tab. Self explanatory. Additional explanatory notes (in italics) occur on the page.
Note the first email address listed is your account email address. Don’t change unless you want to update your account. (All edits to your account can be made by clicking on the My Account link on website top menu.)
The second email address field is what will be displayed publicly. (An optional field.)
The “Address” field works just like a notepad, and can take up to 5 lines of text. Use your enter key to move down a line.
This field should have everything except Country, State, and Zip, which are entered in the field below.
Select from the Country dropdown list. (Default is US – to change without scrolling all the way through the list, type the first letter of your country to quickly move to countries beginning with that letter.)
If United States or Canada is selected, the State drop-down selector populated accordingly.
The “Address Notes” field is set up the same. Add anything else you wish here… ‘turn left where the old stump used to be’ or ‘moving in 6 months to Florida’. Or add nothing.
Again, if changes are made, click on “Update” before leaving the page.
“About” tab. Self-explanatory.
These are WYSIWIG fields – “What You See Is What You Get”. They work just like a basic word editor.
First, you will see a series of 5 buttons at the top of each editor – Add Media, Add Form, etc. Ignore these!
As a non-administrator, at best you will get an ‘access denied’ screen and lose what you may have already written.
The menu bar, icons, and various selectors at the top of each WYSIWIG field surely has what you need.
You should see buttons for “File”, “Edit”, “View”, etc. If not, click on the “Visual” tab at the top right.
For instance, if you need a special character like ®, click on Insert and choose Special Character. You will be presented with a grid of special characters to choose from. If you then want to make that ® ‘superscript’, highlight the character, click on Format, and choose Superscript from the dropdown menu.
If you are conversant with HTML, you can switch to text view by clicking on the “Text” button at the upper right, but most will not need this. If you do use it, save what you do by clicking on the “Update” button at the bottom of the page before switching back to “Visual” or you may lose what you just did. Use at your own risk!
When finished, make sure you click on the “Update” button at the bottom of the page before navigating away.
If you run into problems or have questions, contact the webmaster.
